Rick Shipley has over 18 years of experience recycling commodities across a broad range of industries. Mr. Shipley is an expert in developing large scale recycling programs that meet both operational and financial needs for clients. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer at Organix Recycling, LLC, a company he founded in 2010 to meet a growing and desperate need to divert food scraps from landfills and redirect them to recycling centers. In 9 short years, Organix has become the largest collector and recycler of food scraps in the U.S., diverting nearly 2,000,000 tons since inception. Prior to Organix, Mr. Shipley was the National Sales Director in the Environmental Division for Universal Lubricants.

Presentation Summary: In this session we will explore how the vertical integration of commercial food waste collections into composting operations can create increased opportunities for both food waste generators and compost users. While the prospects are bountiful, incorporating high volumes of food waste into compost operations causes new and unexpected challenges. We will share our experiences and offer some Best Practices as a collector of large volumes of retail food waste as well as the operator of multiple,commercial compost sites.
