Aspen Hattabaugh is an R&D Environmental Specialist with Atlas Organics who leads research opportunities and projects, analyzes feedstocks, and provides technical operational support. Prior to Atlas, she worked on an urban farm in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she farmed, worked in the greenhouse, and taught several classes on composting and soil health. Aspen also taught the laboratory sessions for the Soil Microbiology course at the University of Georgia where she obtained her Master’s in Crop and Soil Sciences. She is a member of the TN Composting Council working with the Policy group, recently completed the USCC Compost Operator Training, and volunteers as an active member of the Community Garden Advisory Committee at Crabtree Farms of Chattanooga.

Presentation Title: Sorting Through the Sort Line – An Exercise in Patience, Progress, and Possibilities
Presentation Description: Following the introduction of the sort line at COMPOST 2022, this presentation will give an overview of ongoing successes and challenges as Atlas Organics continues to explore the possibilities provided by an AI-powered contaminate removal sort line at Atlas Organic’s San Antonio location. We will explore data captured, sort line capabilities, struggles, and lessons learned.
