David Escalera is an Agronomist, specialist in composting, 33 years of professional experience and he is CEO of COMPOSTAMEX, he has developed to date more than 40 industrial composting plants, he has been lecturer in the USCC, 2014, 2015. Conference on Climate Change Response, COP 19 Warsaw, Poland, televised interview and article on cases of composting in Mexico.

Francisco Niembro Co-founded and CEO of ALDEA VERDE. In 2005 begins to promote the development of composting and vermicomposting sites, with more than 30 plants developed to date, he is member of the USCC and was lecturer in 2016 at the USCC conference in 2016, and at the NCSU Vermiculture Conference 2016, 2017 and 2018 and in various national and international forums.

Together they are recognized as leaders and the most experienced developers of composting and vermicomposting sites and they have worked mostly in Mexico with some action in south and central america and caribbean.

Presentation Summary: It is important and very necessary to know and determine Why, When and How to correctly hybridize Composting, Vermicomposting and Liquid Extracts industrial production projects and that is why we will be sharing in this forum the learning curve of four successful projects(4SP), since the conceptualization of the project to its high-quality end products.

Achieve better results, expand the high-quality end products catalog, reach more target markets, have better processes and efficient flows of the waste to be transformed, achieve higher profits, be a successful site, are some of the main reasons why it is appropriate to have a detail study on Why, When and How to efficiently hybridize two or more technologies to transform organic waste.

The main objective of Aldea Verde and Compostamex, two Mexican companies that have jointly developed over 70 plants in the past 30 years, is to achieve efficient, orderly and sustainable sites. By sharing here the stories of thes 4SP and their learning curve, we aim to create awareness of the needs around a good conceptualization, capabilities study, defining technological route, design, procurement, construction, implementation and follow up to the projects so they can achieve success, with fewer setbacks.

The largest Resort in the Riviera Maya, a large-scale Papaya producer/exporter in the pacific coast, a large-scale Berries producer/exporter in a central state in Mexico and a large scale various vegetables producer/exporter near the California border, each one of them are clients demanding us an efficient solution and each of them had very different, situations, climate conditions, timing, regulations, investment possibilities and general objectives for their site. Through a good and professional guidance, objectives achieving has been possible.

Due to food waste worldwide known problematic and the continued erosion of agricultural soils, we can now talk about these hybridized technologies as a sustainable alternative that are helping to alleviate these two major problems.

The results are very positive, for the members of these projects, their families and their communities. Their soil conditions it’s been improved and these 4SP are able to demonstrate broader environmental care. Confident and convinced that this is an effective tool for foodwaste, food security and the recovery of eroded soil, we will continue to promote these kind of projects looking forward to get more people and producers involved with this very needed environmental friendly actions.
